Assistive Technology enables people with disabilities to accomplish daily living tasks, assist them in communication, education, work or recreation activities. In essence, it helps persons with disabilities achieve greater independence and enhances their quality of life.
In recent years, assistive technology for the visually impaired has advanced significantly. Screen readers, OCR, refreshable Braille, magnification devices and software have helped to improve the lives of the visually impaired. How much does this feature in your life? Are you already using assistive technology to access school, work, leisure activities, or are you still unsure what assistive technologies have to offer?
No matter what is your understanding of assistive technology, this first Forum on Assistive Technology is an opportunity to hear from both novice and advanced users of assistive technology to understand how they acquired their knowledge; how assistive technology has been useful to them; and most of all, to hear from you the participants how you can be better supported to access assistive technology.
The Programme includes a range of information about the types of assistive technology available for use in the education and employment sectors, and will focus on panel discussions by people with visual impairments using the technology themselves to participate in education, training and employment.
Topics include:
Panel Discussion of Users of Assistive Technology

(1) Students with Visual Impairments: Barriers and Bridges to AT Usage
(2) Adults with Visual Impairments: Barriers and Bridges to AT Usage
