This depends on the type and extent of the deterioration. Frequently an eye specialist can detect a visible change in the appearance of the Retina but a proper eye examination is needed to determine its precise condition. The types of tests that might be carried out are described in the BRPS booklet 'The Eye Clinic and RP' which can be obtained by application to the BRPS office.
